Malaria

In the previous two  units of Block 5, you have learnt some of the commonly prevailing infectious diseases, such as measles, tuberculosis, poliomyelitis, whooping cough, diphtheria and tetanus. You may have noticed that all the disease are preventable and the Government have initiated active immunisation programmes to control these diseases. You will now be learning about malaria an infectious disease transmitted by a mosquito. What are the consequences of malaria? Is it preventable? These are some of the aspects discussed. Unlike other infectious disease you should be aware that there is no immunisation programme prevent malaria in the communities. So how to control/manage malaria? Read this unit to find  out. 

Objectives

  • identify the cause and mode of spread of malaria 
  • enumerate the symptoms and complications of malaria, and 
  • discuss steps to manage and prevent malaria.
